What is transportation regulations?
Transportation regulations control transportation method divided according to degree of the hazardous materia to reduce or terminate the any possible damage or injury and it permit the products which has passed extreme examination or the transportation limitation. How is Hazardous material classification of Li-battery?
How is Hazardous material classification of Li-battery?
Li primary battery is classified into hazardous material and non-hazardous material by the equivalent lithium content in Cell or battery. And if the equivalent lithium content in CELL/BATTE RY is more than 1.0g/2.0g, it classified as a Class 9 and has a limitation of transportation on the rule of transportation regulations
Transportation test of Li-battery (according to UN regulations)
(1) Altitude Simulation Test
Simulates air transport under low-pressure conditions.
Store at 11.6K Pca or less for 6 hours at 20'C.

Standard of passing the examination
there are No weight change / no leaking / no opening vent / no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition

(2) Thermal Test
Assesses cell and battery seal integrity and internal electrical connections using thermal cycling to simulate rapid and extreme temperature changes. Perform 10 cycles between +75'C and -40'C , 6 hours per cycle with no more than 30 minutes between cycles, and then observe for 24 hours

Standard of passing the examination
there are No weight change / no leaking / no opening vent / no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition / More than 90% OCV numerical value compare with numerical value of OCV checked before testing.

(3) Vibration Test
Simulates vibration during transport. Sinusoidal waveform with a logarithmic sweep between 7 Hz and 200 Hz in 15minites. This cycle must be repeated 12 times for a total of 3 hours for each of three mutually perpendicular mounting positions of the cell or battery.
7~18Hz : 1G / 18Hz ~ 50Hz : 1~8G / 50Hz ~ 200Hz : 8G, : 1.6mmp-p

Standard of passing the examination
there are No weight change/ no leaking / no opening vent/ no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition / More than 90% OCV numerical value compare with numerical value of OCV checked before testing.

(4) Shock Test
Simulates possible impacts during transport. Half-sine shock of peak acceleration of 150g and pulse duration of 6millisecnds. Each cell or battery must be subjected to 3 shocks in the positive direction and 3 shocks in the negative direction of three mutually perpendicular mounting positions for a total of 18 shocks.

Standard of passing the examination
there are No weight change / no leaking / no opening vent / no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition / More than 90% OCV numerical value compare with numerical value of OCV checked before testing.

(5) External Short Circuit Test
Simulates an external short circuit. After stabilizing at 55'C, apply and external resistance of less than 0.1 ohm for 1 hour and then observe for 6 hours

Standard of passing the examination
The surface temperature should not exceed 170'C / no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition (within 6 hours)

(6) Impact Test
Simulates an impact. Place a 15.8mm diameter bar across the sample and then drop a 9.1Kg mass from a height of 61cm on to the bar, and then observe for 6 hours

Standard of passing the examination
The surface temperature should not exceed 170'C / no decomposition / no explosion / no ignition (within 6 hours)

(7) Overcharge Test
* This test is not for non-rechargeable Li-battery.

(8) Forced Discharge Test
Evaluates the ability of a primary or a rechargeable cell to withstand forced discharge.
Force discharge at an initial current equal to the maximum discharge current specified by the manufacturer, and then observe for 7 days.

Standard of passing the examination
There are no decomposition / no ignition (within 6 hours).
Hew many batteries are required fot testing
